WHY ECM FOR AIR DISTRIBUTION & VENTILATION

Built for Long Operating Hours and Variable Airflow Demand

Commercial air distribution and ventilation systems often operate for extended periods while airflow demand changes with occupancy, operating schedules and indoor conditions.

ECM technology enables variable-speed airflow control and efficient part-load operation. Combined with an external motor driver, motor speed and control parameters can be configured around the airflow and operating requirements of different HVAC equipment.

Variable-Speed Airflow

Adjust motor speed to support different ventilation demands, from reduced airflow during low-demand periods to higher airflow when increased ventilation is required.

Part-Load Efficiency

Efficient motor operation and variable-speed control help reduce unnecessary energy consumption, particularly in air distribution and ventilation equipment that operates for extended hours.

Operating Flexibility

Configure motor speed and operating parameters around changing system demand, equipment requirements and operating schedules.

Flexible Control

Support 0–10V, 3-speed and RS485 control options, with configurable motor speed and operating parameters for different air distribution and ventilation equipment.

AIRFLOW CONTROL

Variable Airflow for Changing System Demand

Motor speed and airflow can be adjusted according to system demand, operating schedules and control signals.

Why an External Driver?

Separating the motor and driver gives HVAC OEMs greater flexibility in system design, thermal management, maintenance and motor selection.

More Flexibility
for HVAC Innovation

Faster Customization

Adapt driver hardware, firmware and control interfaces without necessarily redesigning the motor.

Fewer Motor Variants

Support different HVAC control requirements with a common motor platform and matched driver options.

Easier Service & Replacement

Separate motor and driver components allow more flexible maintenance and replacement strategies.

Better Thermal Separation

Position the driver away from motor heat and vibration for improved thermal management and system integration.

TECHNOLOGY SPOTLIGHT

Sensorless Control. External Driver Flexibility.

Our sensorless motor driver solutions support Hall-sensor-free BLDC motor operation, with motor-specific tuning and configurable control options.

No Hall Sensors Required

Sensorless commutation eliminates the need for Hall sensor feedback from the motor.

Motor-Specific Tuning

Driver parameters and firmware can be optimized for motor characteristics and application requirements.

Control Interface Options

Depending on the driver model, available interfaces include 3-speed, 0–10V and RS485 control.

Technical FAQ

01. What types of air distribution and ventilation equipment can use your ECM motors?

Our ECM motors can be applied to VAV-related equipment, cleanroom FFUs, cabinet and utility fans, inline ventilation fans, ceiling ventilation units and HVAC blower assemblies.

02. How do you select an ECM motor for a blower or fan?

We start with the required airflow (CFM), external static pressure (ESP) and operating point, then evaluate the blower or impeller, motor speed, torque and power requirements. Mechanical dimensions and control requirements are also considered before recommending a motor configuration.

03. Can you provide the ECM motor together with the impeller or complete blower assembly?

Yes. We can provide the ECM motor only, motor + impeller, or a complete blower assembly depending on the application. Available solutions include forward-curved, backward-curved, cross-flow/tangential and other fan or blower configurations.

04. What speed and control options are available?

Depending on the driver and application, we can support 0–10V, PWM, multi-speed and RS485 control. Driver hardware and firmware can also be configured around the required speed range, airflow demand and HVAC control strategy.

05. Can your ECM motor and external driver replace an existing HVAC motor?

Potentially, but replacement should not be based on motor power or frame size alone. We evaluate the existing motor’s voltage, power, RPM, rotation, shaft, mounting, blower load and control interface to determine whether an ECM motor and external driver configuration can be matched to the equipment.

06. What information do you need to recommend a motor and blower solution?

For an initial evaluation, send us the existing motor nameplate or model, voltage, power, RPM, shaft and mounting dimensions, blower or fan information, target airflow/ESP and control requirements. If available, equipment drawings and existing motor specifications help us evaluate the application more accurately.
