Variable-Speed Airflow
Adjust fan speed according to room load and airflow requirements.
Fan coil units operate across changing cooling and heating loads throughout the day. ECM / BLDC motor technology enables variable-speed airflow, lower noise and improved part-load efficiency compared with traditional fixed-speed motor solutions.
Instead of operating at one fixed speed, ECM motors can adjust airflow according to room demand. Combined with a matched blower and external driver, the motor can be configured around the FCU’s airflow, noise and control requirements — supporting efficient part-load operation and flexible integration with thermostats, BMS and building control systems.
Adjust fan speed according to room load and airflow requirements.
Reduce unnecessary fan speed during low-load operation for quieter room environments.
Reduce motor energy use when full airflow is not required.
Support multiple speed settings, 0–10V and communication options through the external driver and control system.
ECM VS PSC IN FAN COIL APPLICATIONS
ECM motors are a better fit for modern fan coil units, offering higher efficiency, flexible speed control and easier system integration.
| Feature | PSC Motor | ECM Motor |
|---|---|---|
| Speed Control | Fixed speed taps | Multi-speed / variable speed |
| Airflow Control | Limited | Flexible |
| Part-Load Operation | Conventional | Better suited to variable airflow |
| Control Integration | Basic speed control | 3-Speed / 0–10V / RS485 / Modbus* |
| OEM Configuration | Limited | Motor + driver + firmware |
| Best Suited For | Fixed / simple airflow applications | Variable-speed & control-integrated FCUs |

Separating the motor and driver gives HVAC OEMs greater flexibility in system design, thermal management, maintenance and motor selection.
More Flexibility
for HVAC Innovation
Adapt driver hardware, firmware and control interfaces without necessarily redesigning the motor.
Support different HVAC control requirements with a common motor platform and matched driver options.
Separate motor and driver components allow more flexible maintenance and replacement strategies.
Position the driver away from motor heat and vibration for improved thermal management and system integration.

Our ECM motor solutions can be developed for concealed ducted, vertical and cabinet, cassette, and high-static ducted fan coil units. Motor selection depends on the fan structure, airflow, external static pressure, installation space and control requirements.
We normally evaluate the required airflow (CFM), external static pressure (ESP), fan or blower type, target RPM, torque, voltage, mounting dimensions and control method before selecting or developing the motor and driver solution.
Yes. For OEM replacement projects, you can provide the existing motor model, nameplate, drawing or datasheet together with the fan coil operating requirements. We evaluate both mechanical compatibility and required motor performance rather than matching only voltage and wattage.
Yes. PSC-to-ECM conversion can be developed by evaluating the existing fan coil, blower, airflow and static pressure requirements, motor mounting and control system. The ECM motor and driver are then matched to the application.
Depending on the driver configuration, control options can include 0–10V, multi-speed control and RS485/Modbus. The control interface can be configured according to the fan coil controller or thermostat requirements.
Yes. Shaft dimensions, mounting structure and other mechanical interfaces can be customized or matched to the existing fan coil design, subject to engineering evaluation.
Yes. Our ECM motor platform uses an external motor driver architecture. The motor, driver board and control configuration can be matched as a system according to the fan coil application.
Please send the available fan coil specifications, airflow and ESP requirements, existing motor nameplate/drawing, blower information, voltage, control method and mechanical dimensions. If some information is unavailable, we can review the available data first and identify what is still required.
